Local Remediation acceleration plan publication statement
Accelerating the pace of remediation on mid- and high-rise residential buildings in West Yorkshire
We have already completed a third of buildings in our area which is in line with the rest of the country. In our region, remediation needs to start as soon as possible on 61 buildings; 22 buildings have works underway and 41 buildings have been completed. There are approximately a further 74 where remediation may be required, but where this is yet to be determined.
We are convening partners in our five constituent local authorities and the West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue service to explore how we can work together and collectively accelerate the pace of remediation in West Yorkshire. We are working through our decision-making channels and a draft West Yorkshire Remediation Acceleration Plan was discussed at our Place, Regeneration and Housing Committee in July. We expect to take the final version to our Combined Authority meeting on 14th September, for a decision to formally publish the plan.
Funding from the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government is enabling us to expand capacity within the Combined Authority and the Fire and Rescue Service to effectively implement the plan. The National Remediation System is a welcome tool, which will support collaborative working across multiple organisations both locally and nationally with a single source of information.
